In this month’s edition of the LPM magazine, Paul Coote (Founder and M.D., Instant On IT), encourages law firms to be highly selective in every respect when it comes to the cloud.
In the article, Paul acknowledges that there is frequently investment in on-premise systems and procedures coupled with a resistance to change, making an all-in approach inappropriate for most businesses.
He highlights rapid ROI where there is cumulative scale, giving Microsoft’s Office 365 as a prime example, and notes advantages such as the ability to pay for what you need, as well as paying for tech on an op-ex level.
However, Paul also urges law firms to evaluate aspects such as the ease of scaling services down, extracting information from extant systems and whether there are hidden lock-ins, as we’ve seen with some cloud-based back-up services.
With this selective attitude, the article concludes that law firms have a very real opportunity to embrace IT, creating a differentiator as well as an enabler when it comes to the way they deliver services and the working environment for their own people.
